Careful. They're infectious! I started off with two clems in my Belgian garden and ended up with about 50 before a devastating -32C frost which killed all sorts of roses and evergreens and clems. In this new garden I brought about 6 clems with me and have since acquired at least a dozen more and just the other day I sowed some seeds of clematis koreana..............

They are becoming more desirable to me. I have seven dotted around the garden , mainly growing through roses. The lovely Betty Corning l planted last year opened my eyes to scented bell shaped clematis. I quite fancy the clematis that Lizzie bought herself. I think l read it smells a bit like aniseed. I like it's little blooms too and l think Richard commented it'll grow anywhere.
I wish l had space for 50 clematis Obelixx, or 50 hellebores, or peonies or Siberian iris or agapanthus. Maybe one day l will ..i'll just keep dreaming for now.
There is a Youtube clip of a chap called Mike who has 300 + clematis in his garden. Clematis Corner it's called. Very inspiring and good advice on watering etc. You may want more clematis after watching it though.
I wish I'd bought Betty Corning instead of Prince Charles which seems to be pining in my garden (mind you that might be because he's looking across to the Princess of Wales!) I can't remember how I paid Richard, I might have just emaild him to order it and then sent a cheque. I did it on our main computer not this laptop so will check later.
I had Betty Corning and she was a really good doer. I also had Princess Diana which is a glorious clem with a lovely clear pink and very free flowering.
I didn't like the look of the prince Charles clems but did buy a Blekitny Aniol now sold as Blue Angel. The flowers are a similar colour but a more attractive shape and they have a beautiful rib on the back. Also very strong and free flowering. I had that growing in a chimney pot with its roots able to reach down into the soil. I brought that one with me after transferring it to large, deep pot but the other two were firmly on the ground and had to be left along with many other.
