When I went to the GC this morning they told me about a huge fire (arson?) at Gardman's new centre in Daventry last month ... I'd not heard about it but apparently it's the reason for a shortage of all sorts of stuff in the GCs
A good day here so far, starting off with blue skies and sunshine. Trotted out to plant out the tomatoes at 9:30 and have watered them and all the seeds and seedlings in the polytunnel. The toms will need covering at night for a while but will be better off outside than cooking in the PT.
Then total scrub and hair wash for patchwork lunch at Ile d'Olonne. Strange wee place run by job seekers but an excellent lunch - Kir and nibbles, assorted fish and mussels with a lobster bisque sauce, guinea fowl and veggies, cheese, raspberry mousse thingummy and coffee and loads of wine - tho I only had one glass - all for 20€. Good company, lots of chat and they have me a bouquet to say thank your for using them as guinea pigs for my cake and biscuit recipes.
The ginger and marmalade cake on Monday was excellent. A keeper.
Home via SM since we have a chap coming to sort out my Rangemaster on Thursday and can't go then. Now to go and sit in the sun after checking my babies and potting up some dahlia tubers that were on offer yesterday when I went to a different SM hunting wine.
24C out there now and set to be the same for the next few days. Fingers crossed cos we have a big plant fair on Saturday and I'm making cakes to sell so we need lots of punters to eat them.
Shame about your bump Dove but at least no-one was hurt. Hope the new plants cheer you up Pdoc. Hi to everyone else - far too many bits of news since this morning to mention each one but hope you're having a good day.

Excited male frog croaking loudly in the pond advertising his presence to any lady frogs in the area ... there are usually at least half a dozen so this could be his lucky night! Also a Peacock butterfly sunbathing on the fence
And I've planted four rows of lettuce ... two of Cos and two of Little Gems ... two rows are under a cloche so they'll be ready first ... hopefully.
Now there's a smoked haddock and leek tart in the oven for supper

Shame about the bump, Dove. Perhaps it was good you'd already made your gardening purchases before needing to shell out an unexpected £50...
I'm feeling a little like a trout, having spent 3 hours this afternoon having my first session with the other brass band beginners. Happy to report I can play 5 notes (sort of) - even if my lips are suffering somewhat. It's lovely to have a new challenge!
Good luck with those latin plant names, LG...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
You sound like you're having a lovely time, Obxx . You do too, Dove (let's just ignore the prang, shall we... ). Liri, I think I missed finding out what instrument you've ended up with (#PleaseSayItsATuba).
I'm generally pretty OK with Latin names, Liri, but I don't really do hanging baskets (two last year - both with Tumbling Tom tomatoes and basil!) and am not generally that into tender or half hardy plants, so the question about baskets made me realise that 'the little yellow one people always use' or 'those purple petunias' is probably not going to cut it! I did manage to get to five, but it was like pulling teeth... so that's what I'm going over this evening.
Dove, I wondered how the garden diary is going. Are you remembering to fill it in?
'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.'
I've generally remembered, but as I do more I have a feeling I'll remember less. I hope I can keep it going into a second year - I think that'll be when it really starts to vecome useful.

out meeting up with old friends tonight - seems ages since I’ve seen them (sometimes life just gets in the way ) so looking forward to a good catch up. Hope Hosta is doing the same with Big Sis
Good morning all . It certainly looks like a summer morning out there today Chicky We're meeting up with an old college friend on Friday ... It's been years ... so looking forward to it. I think today will involve some weeding and hoeing.

Thinking of you, Punkdoc. Enjoy those plants!
