Hi we have been without telephone and internet for 2wks as some one pinch the under ground cable and caused a lot of problems for people. We are having a mixed bag of weather but still need the rain. I use to read Marion so I hope all is ok, that goes for Pdoc as well. We have a lot of english towns here and when the 1820 people camethey named then after the area that they came from.Hope every one is ok
Hi everyone and welcome back Dove. Just having a feet-up hour between garden jobs and making tea. Been trying to think of amusing place names in Wales: Plwmp, Mwnt, Shwt, Penisarwaun, Sili, Pant-sod (plenty of Pant-somethings - as it means ‘hollow’)...
Evening all. I've spent the day in the tunnel digging up dahlias which have been in there for 2 years. A bit of robbing Peter to pay Paul vis plant pots was required and many more to do. Glad you had a nice weekend Dove. Big Sis arrives tomorrow . Hubby picking her up at Exeter whilst I'm at work. I managed a bit of face time with No 1 daughter . Those salt flats she visited are the size of Switzerland. More than a little surreal.
Had a good days gardening today. Repotted agapanthus, planted delphiniums and weeded the borders. The garden and the greenhouse look a lot tidier now. It will be even better once the green bin is emptied tomorrow, it's the first collection of the year and I have more than enough to fill it again.
Nice to see you back, Dove. Sounds as if you had a lovely break!
Got cold this morning waiting for the jackdaw to leave the chimney and fly out of the window. By lunchtime the "caws" were decreasing, and we couldn't see the bird, even with a mirror and torch, so we put some water and food inside the soot door in case it was still in there (and still alive ). Closed the windows and the soot door cos the temperature in the living room was only 12C... no further noises, but we'll check again tomorrow.
We're just hoping the jackdaws aren't actually nesting in our (used) chimney (as well as the redundant one). We have a "cage thingy" for the chimney, and have had it for some time, waiting for the roof man (with the damaged cruciate ligament) to recover, mend the roof and fit the cage. But obviously he can't fit it if the chimney is occupied with a nest.
Just watching the programme with David Attenborough and the Queen talking about trees.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Evidence leads me to suspect that some did and some didn't
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

The tree planting will help prevent soil erosion in many places..
