I love seeing all the beautiful produce being produced in ye're gardens, definitely going to attempt to grow something to eat next year, but I will be eating it on my own. My other half wouldn't even taste the strawberries which grew on plants that were given to me earlier in the year. He's afraid of what might have crawled/peed/walked/etc......on the produce. I'm trying to explain to him how all veg and fruit is grown! It might appear sterile and washed in the supermarket but they've all been well processed by the time they reach the shops. Plus the bonus of the produce being tastier.
First proper crop taken off plants today. The hot weather is definitely bringing the cucumbers on much faster, but luckily not affecting the taste. Do like the taste of the mini cues a little milder than the usual ones, and the red spring onions are lovely.
I only have two cues and one mini plant this year as I had a late start, the heat/sun has made them catch up. All the big cues are now in the freezer in the form of soup.😋😋😋😁
We don't freeze our cucumbers (or make soup), but we do freeze the courgettes - with 9 plants we have far too many to eat/give away/sell, so the freezer is bulging with courgettes and beetroot at the moment. Hopefully it will be apples in a month or two.
My apple tree is only three years old, so last year I thought it was a bonus to get one apple. This year there are clusters of three apples on quite a few branches so I must have pruned them right .😁 Hopefully they will survive the hot weather.
Last year it did! I trained it up a cane and in early august the whole lot slid down the cane and the main stem was crushed but I still got a few from it. I wasn't going to let that happen again, so this year I used stout clematis netting up to the eaves then across the width of the g/house. I help the tendrils grasp the support and so far so good. I'm staggered at the amount of fruits it can produce. This is only my 2nd year growing cucumbers. I probably eat about 6 a week - so the neighbours get plenty
