I’ve picked my first aubergine if the year. And a giant cumcumber. The rest of the cucumbers have been half this size.

  • They look really good Womble, no blemishes on them - we haven't grown aubergine for a few years now, but I remember they were very thirsty plants.

Here is my long awaited first crop. Not a bad haul, but still waiting for toms to ripen. Hubby says they are not late until the last weekend in July.😁

Never happy - I just picked some blackberries, only a handful admittedly but I really don't want them yet, it was bad enough when they came in August but early July really!

Oh I know the reason,  the heat is compressing the season, raspberries came before the strawbs were finished, logans came & went in < 2 weeks  now this. My carefully planned "succession" has all gone to pot.

So has mine. Tom's not ripe yet cucumbers going mad( minis are ripening slower than the normal didn't expect that) and just picked a handful of courgettes. French beans slower too. Raspberries eaten by blackbirds and they are not even ripe yet.

Last year I grew a cucumber in a pot for the first time using a bamboo cane for support. I was amazed at the amount of fruits it produced until August, when the weight of cue's caused the plant to slide down the cane and the stem was crushed :( Then I on;y got a few.
This year I put up some tough clematis netting for it to scramble on.
I picked my first cue on 15th June and have just now picked my 119th!!!!
I'm in awe of the plant that can produce so many.
    Variety is Cucino

What a good idea @Pete8 mine are just starting the heavy slide,  for this year I have put wires across and started winding the tops around them. Hope it works.
