    Morning all.

30C plus?? Heaven. I know lots hate it and can't cope but it's being cold I can't stand: I'm actually  in pain when I'm cold.

No frost here, the girls are stirring and Hubby is making breaky.

No 1 daughter to be dropped off at the station at 10.30, the No 2 daughter at the airport by 11.30.

No 1 is off to S. America on Monday for 3 months taking in Columbia , Ecuador ( including Galapagos Islands) Bolivia, Peru, then heading to Mexico where No 2 will be so they can have a week together and fly home together.

I remember finding an old diary of my Mother's detailing a train journey with my 2 eldest siblings to Italy in 1952 . It took them 3 days to get there. Now they just take their phone and book flights to the other side of the world like it's ordering a take away.

    Devon.

    Morning all! Afternoon Pat!

Off to the doctors a bit later for check up on my hands. There is an improvement but can't tell if its the time off work or turmeric tablets that's working! Can't see that going back to manual labor outside in -3 would help improve things though! Think I'm going to have to find alternative employment as I don't get sick pay and this situation can't continue. I'm not even disappointed as I've heard from other staff that the new contracts are very dodgy legally and the work conditions are even worse than I'm used to there! They want me to discuss my new contract today after the doctors, think I'll be getting some advice and not signing anything!

See Firelily, we all rant on here! Its one of the wonderful thing about this thread! Sorry to hear you are having trouble with your health, we are here for you to get it off your cheast!

Purple dressing gown not really doing the job today! While I'm not working I refuse to use the heating in the day so once OH has gone to work, plenty of layers go on!!

Lovely to see you DD!!! So glad everything is going so well!

Need second coffee! Have a lovely day all!

It’s so lovely to hear from you Wonky. We’ve missed you. I really think you would do better doing something else. Not sure what though. We all need to use our hands for most things and I can’t imagine that typing in a warm office would be the answer either. It’s a conundrum.

Thank you Pat, yes I fear you are right!  Its frustrating because gardening is what I love but the people I work for are really quite unpleasant in their treatment of employees. The new contract says no phones or music, even though you are lone working all day! In the worst weather we are given outdoor jobs when they have plenty of jobs under shelter of barns or in the greenhouse! I haven't seen a single risk assessment in the whole time I've been there and  health and safety doesn't exist!!!! I'm not asking to be wrapped in cotton wool but some of their work practices are down right dangerous! Because its a private estate I guess they get away with it. image

Wonky a friend of mine got a super job last autumn working for an enormous company that does indoor and out door landscaping. Her job was to organise 500 Christmas trees (one hotel!) oversee transport, then using a huge warehouse and a cherry picker and staff store all the decorations for next year.  She is almost finished and then has to start on Easter decorations. She is only off three months and as they are summer she is delighted. What about investigating something like that.  This company is Scottish so there must be lots down your way.

good luck at the docs ?

  • Lone working on a 70 acre estate without a means of summoning help really isn't acceptable.

    Such a shame.
