It takes stories like those that remind me to be glad of our life here. The isolation can get to me, but I know which I prefer.

Thats awful Dove, you cannot get your head around the cruelty  of some people in power.the case of absolute power corrupting absolutely.

I dont know where you live hogweed, but here in the SE UK dumplings are made of suet, flour, water, (pinch of herbs) and accompay casseroles, what you describe sounds like "spotted Dick", (but wheres the suet!)  Mine usually go on top of the stew, (which has been par boiled) for the last 20 minutes, but last year, been late home, desided to give them a go in the microwave, not cripsy but perfectly edible.

Hubby just told me that at 6.45 pm it’s still 30 c. I keep thinking that the weather forecast for some rain might just come true. Some hope!

Obelixx, I’m curious to know if you tried the microwave plan on the pork rind?

Sunrise today 11.16 am Sunset is 11.41 am Current temperature minus 10C, with wind chill,  will feel like minus 16(Forecast). At 11.15 we get on a bus to the North Cape.  I've put an extra pair of woolly socks on.  image

Breakfast was 7 till 10. Brunch is 10.30 to 1pm. There were a lot of apples going into pockets at breakfast. I should have bought a tupperware box with me. The insulated mugs and the tub of instant drinking chocolate have come in handy.

Good morning.  Wet and blustery here and the kitties are very fed up.  They snuck out of the back door keeping low cos of the wind, got about 6' to the first corner of the annex and scurried back in after meeting the full blast of wind.  No doubt I shall have "help" with my sewing today.

FB - hot chocolate is wonderfully comforting in extreme cold.  Glad you're getting lots of northern lights.  They don't always perform to order.

Dove - I have always thought that the Guardian has a very blinkered views of supposed Socialist revolutions and happily skim over the human element of the cost on small traders and producers and workers.   Same with anyone who viewed Stalin and Lenin with a less than critical eye.  Between them they wiped out more Russians and people from occupied territories than the Nazis did in their camps and they were a disaster for the economy.  Same with dictators like Mugabe, other African leaders and their like.   The right wing press is no better at being honest and analytical.

Pat - most of the skin crackled as it should but I tried your trick with the bits that didn't.  Not as successful as I'd hoped but the dogs thought it was yummy.

Haven't seen UK weather reports today but I hope everyone is safe and warm and dry.

Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

11.41 am sunset. The sun is above the horizon for less than half an hour, but there is a period of dusk about two hours after. What we would call a gloaming. However that was on clear sky  days and it is now getting cloudier.
