I’ve tried all sorts that they would eat in the wild,  they won’t even touch hosta leaves.
Do you hold yours Philippa?  I’m trying to be brave with little one, thought we could grow together.  Not sure about holding the big ones.

  • Agree with you Lyn.  No hostas here but I've tried various other things which I'd have thought would be of interest but to no avail.
Yes I do hold them - in fact I've not long taken Big White for a look round the garden.  He was wide awake when I was cleaning their tank and it is so mild.  Perched on my hand, he practically covered my palm with his head stuck out over my fingers.  I actually quite like the feel of them - not really slimey as people expect but just damp and a bit tickly.  You should be on a winner with Tiny B - little and often is usually the best way to get used to it.  Not much different from Spiders and other "creepy" jobs really.

I overcome my phobia of moths and spiders little and often, so should be ok with Tiny B.
Karens have tucked down a few weeks ago.

bang goes the theory they don’t lay in the winter.

  • Oh Lyn....that's what comes of the Govt. saying, more or less, that it was OK to party over Xmas - the Brians obviously took note  What are you going to do with them or are you passing them to R ?
Interesting tho - no signs of eggs ( or even really untoward behaviour) here. All eating but cucumber mostly.

The species will never become extinct whilst my lot are around 😀. Yours will be next Philippa, it’s bound to happen.

Emerging egg,   I’ve been waiting to see this for quite a while, they usually lay at night,  now it’s just before bedtime so I could watch it lay.   It’s such a strenuous thing for them, sometimes they die afterwards.
