Back from Daughter's. Grandsons like their presents. We've eaten very well, on Friday we had roast chicken for lunch and a huge seafood platter with half a crab each in the evening. Saturday lunch was a wonderful salmon and leek pie with puff pastry and OH's Gravlax in the evening. Had a bit too much wine too. Went for a couple of long walks.
Just OH and me tonight, how I like it.
Lovely and sunny at the moment but tonight and tomorrow howling gales, up to 95km an hour, and pouring rain are forecast, hurricane Carmen. Bit worrying.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Hope you've got your hatches battened down, Lizzie and Obelixx. No wind for us yet - think it's due to pass us by this time - but heavy overnight rain has apparently persuaded our other attached neighbour (we're in the middle of a terrace) that he too should buttonhole the roofer when he (finally) arrives to sort our leaks out. I wonder if he'll do us a discount for tackling all three at once? I'm assuming he'll just need one lot of scaffolding...
LG, hope the worst concrete-filled bit of the cold soon passes. Not much fun when you're trying to cater for the family.
Glad you're enjoying the comforts of home, Punkdoc. Best wishes to you and Moira.
Dacha, hope the back is bearing up under the strain of catering for BH's relatives...
Have a lovely break, Dove.
Great New Year fireworks, Pat!
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Just me and him too Chicky. We used to go to NY balls but decided about 3 years ago we'd rather stay home and have a quiet dinner and a few glasses of fizz and good wine and snuggle with the critters than traipse about all over Belgium and then be the only ones sober on the roads at 2 or 3 am for the 70 to 100km return trip. No taxi duty either as Possum's NY is a sleepover in Floreffe in Belgium.
I'm just having my usual NY Eve whizz round with the proper vacuum cleaner and steam cleaner. I like it clean for NY and insist anyone here wears some auspicious red or gold and not black! OH has gone out with the dogs during a brief respite in the wind and rain. Pussies are sitting looking affronted at the weather.
Fireworks are pretty but dangerous. A friend from our old home has posted a radar map of central Belgium before NY and at midnight. It shows the flocks of birds all over the cities and countryside rising up in fright as the fireworks go off. Bad enough for pets indoors but a nightmare for all the wildlife and animals in the fields -

As it is highly unlikely that I am going to be out of bed for to much longer, I thought that I would wish you all, a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR
You are a wonderful bunch of people, whose company I have loved and hope to continue enjoying in 2018.
I hope next year brings you everything you desire.
