Hi well PAT if you get fedup with the rain please give it a push my way, we are suppose to hear if we are in for more water restrictions this week, but we are allowed 55 litres per person per day so we will be using the pool as our bath. Out of that we have to do our washing very windy here today. I hope PDoc gets on ok today and i think Chicky will soon be on her way to Aussie.

Clear and sunny start today but clouding over now.   1C expected overnight for the next few days.   Might need to dig out socks and a jumper and also put the new yucca in the polytunnel along with the yuzu and the melon-pears.  I have some tree and shrub seeds that need a bit of stratification before they'll germinate.  Do they need to be frosted or just cold?

Satnav very handy round Bilbao last week as they have funny lane divisions when roads merge or separate.   Correct lane info essential at those speeds.

Pdoc - that place is supposed to be a place of healing isn't it?   Take advantage of what they have to offer.

Just watching the news.  When will the USA wake up to the idiocy of guns?

  • Hello everyone!

Hope you get some rain soon, Glenys.  55 litres sounds a lot, but I guess once you work out how much each load of washing takes, it doesn't go all that far...

Yesterday was our monthly all-day rehearsal in York.  It was really noticeable how autumn seemed barely to have touched the gardens in the city - including a glorious display of pelargoniums filling a small front garden, and several lovely fuchsias and some dahlias in the one next door.  Lots of colour still on the trees.  But they had their first frost last night, so I expect things look a bit different now.  image

The singing was fun, though I now can't remove an "ear worm"... it has an irregular rhythm, meaning that it would help to have one leg longer than the other when trying to walk in time with it (if you see what I mean...)

There are notices all round this valley warning drivers not to follow their sat nav.  The steep road leading to our turning regularly gets blocked by delivery drivers getting stuck on the sharp bend because they don't believe what they are told by locals.  I like a proper map, except in towns.  image

    Thinking of you, Punkdoc.

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
  • Just had a phone call from garage ... Lola needs a pair of rear springs ... ouch!  but needs must ...  we older ladies sometimes have bits that go wrong ... wish new parts for us were as easy to sort out as for Lola image

Ouch!  Harry has had a complete set of new disc pads and 4 new tyres in the last month or so and yet, despite all those euros and TLC he still squeaked his way round the slow roads.  OH says he can't hear it but he said that when Possum and I first mentioned the brakes problem last July and waited and waited.  He's now making an appointment to get the squeak checked before it becomes a major issue!

I used to be able to d a full 13000 mile service on my car but that was in the 80s before they got all computerised and I gave up the course once we got to wheels and brakes because, despite being strong, I have never been able to undo a wheel nut and wouldn't trust myself to tighten them enough either.  That's a job for a "man who can" or a garage.

We can at least get new knees and hips Dove, just with hoomans it takes time to heal and recover strength.

  • Oh yes Obelixx image   I did my first 'real driving' in proper Minis where I could do all the general maintenance, and take the spark plugs out and dry them with a hairdryer after driving through East Anglian floods ... I didn't spend time working for a Hot Rod and Stock Car garage when I was seventeen for nothing image

Hi everyone. I’ve been off air for a while - busy playing with paints etc.

We also had a visit from one of our neighbours just as Hubby was serving up corned beef, mashed potatoes, peas, carrots and mustard sauce. Luckily there was plenty to go round. He was persuaded to stay.  Rather yummy dinner though.

PunkDoc, hope the appt. goes well and you’re home soon.

Glenys, we don’t have town water In this village. We rely on catching rain for our water tanks, so no official restrictions for us, thank goodness. We have 5 large tanks. We collect from the house, shed and garage and it runs down to 3 of them, then Hubby pumps the water up to the 2 tanks at the top of the hill so that it then gravity feeds into the house system. image Sounds complicated, but it works well. He’ll be down pumping tomorrow so that any excess from todays collection doesn’t overflow down to the river.

We had a bore drilled several years ago which is for the garden. We don’t put that water through the house system because of possible problems in the hot water system. From  memory, I think they had to go down 40 metres or so. Can’t remember now. It is drinkable, but not as nice as rain water.

Hope you get some rain soon. I think our rain system was going to NZ, not west.

    Evening all.

Another day of grass cutting / fallen leaf mowing / dumpy sack filling.

    Very therapeutic indeed.

    Hope Punkdoc's appointment went well.
