Went to Antigua 3 years ago, and went to Nelsons Dockyard, where there is a little museum. It had a piece of Wedgewood, which I stood admiring, as I come from Stoke. An American guy sidled up to me..."Yeah...well you guys pinched the idea of proper china from the French didn't ya!!". Me....."Well, Josiah Wedgwood perfected that 'proper china' didn't he?". American chap looks at me, very puzzled..."Who?" he says... Mmmmnnnn.........I do hope that they haven't lost it all there, it is such a lovely place, and I hope all the people are safe and able to rebuild.
Hi Linda. Antigua didn't suffer a lot. Barbuda their sister island did and they are flat out giving as much aid as they can. The islands hope to be up and running by Christmas

Autumnest day yet here. Bright and crispy and dewy. NOT RAINING AND NONE FORECAST!!!!! What's gone wrong?
Today I will be mostly planting candelabra primula. I've had them for a while and every time they outgrow their pots I split them a bit more. Now I have rather a lot. Thankfully I have just the spot for them beside the pond. There are a few random hostas also from splittings so they can go in too. I plan to clear all my little pottlings. Yeah right...that's going to happen!
Hosta you made me smile with your St Paul's tale. OH and I were in Rome two weeks ago, we were at the Trevi Fountain when we heard some Americans talking about how beautiful it was.......one asked how old it was.......another replied....oh about two hundred years old
Good job they didn't see the expression on our faces Lol
Very autumnal out there today, think an Indian summer isn't on the cards
SGL, I wonder if Americans learn any history other than their own? Mind you, I'm sure there are some equally stupid Brits making crass remarks about other people's countries... though perhaps in less confidently loud voices, generally.
Glad you've got better weather at last, Hosta! Hope you've got time to enjoy it. Here it is cold and drizzly... again...
PP, I actually got every single "nursery" plant into the garden this spring. Nursery bed is full again - goodness knows where they're all going to go. I think I'll be passing a lot of little plants on to friends and relations.
I managed not to make matters a lot worse yesterday at the Harrogate show. There was lots to admire, but there's really only room for very small plants in my garden until I have my "planned reshuffle" in the winter. So I bought only a gentian (just labelled as "dark seedling", will flower in a week or so) and a particularly pretty sempervivum, choosing the pot carefully (it had one rosette of a different sort in as well). I hardly took my gloves off all day! The sun shone intermittently but there was a very chilly north wind.
I wouldn't grow gladioli myself, but these were magnificent. I'll do a Harrogate show thread with some more pics later today...
Happy Sunday, folks!
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

The sky is a funny kinda blue colour and there's a big shiny thing up there. Can anyone identify either?

Don't know what you mean, Hosta

Hope the weather stays good for your planting PP.
I would love to go to Rome, never been. Matter of finding the right moment, time, house sitter.
Going to the Harvest Lunch in the village church today. Then to Dunelm to pick up some fabric I ordered, hadn't realised they are open on Sundays.
Good morning all!
