  Scaeva pyrastri, the Pied Hoverfly. A migrant that is not permanently resident in Britain, and which arrives in variable numbers each year, rather like Painted Ladies.

  I need to learn the dark art of focus stacking. A triangle plume moth and a blood vein. Both needing a touch more DOF.

  Very large dragonfly laying eggs on my iris (for the interest, not the photography skills!). Looks like I'll have some new predators in my pond soon competing with the great diving beetles!
