Just found this huge green beetle   unfortunately,  it's  dead. Can anyone identify the deceased?

    Thanks @Papi Jo. I'll have a look.
PS I hope mine had as good a time before it died.

    Something ate just the legs?

Maybe I  knocked them  off when I  tipped it over  .That step gets  really  hot so maybe it got cooked after it had died.

I am interested in the patterning of lady birds. Are there random elements at play? It's interesting to see two bugs with different sets of spots mating or attempting to. Do they hybridise, like hellebores? Does a jiggy black-on-red four spot and a randy black-on-red 13 spot make a baby orange eight and a half spot? Or is that a rude question?

And, oh, the mad white eye patches. :o

Those are both harlequins. They seem to have different forms listed but breeding between the forms seems like normal behaviour. Nice to see they're not racist. https://www.naturespot.org.uk/species/harlequin-ladybird
I wonder if ants stole B3's legs?

We have ants @wild edges. They're busy farming on the artichoke and the leucanthemum as they do. But at least you know where to find them.
