    Dachalover says:

Clarington ....does Reggie ....rub his ears into any carpet or fabric after his bath ....I can't imagine not being able to poke my finger in there to get any moisture out image

    See original post

Dachalover; he has a good toweling down and he shakes himself down which I think is good for getting the moisture out!

Since Rasta rubs her neck in unspeakable things and has hairy ears too she often gets muck stuck so we currently have to give a twice weekly dose of ear solution, massage it in and then let her out quick before she shakes her head.   Not a girly dog at all except when mothering Cosmos.

Happy day's gardening done today.  I've weeded some of the shade bed, potted up my sweet peas which I thought had died in the heatwave but I've just found struggling and trying to lfower where I'd hidden them in shade.  They're looking perkier already.

Transferred a viburnum sargentii into a bigger deeper pot, top dressed and fed my clems and pruned the wisterias.  Cleared the bed under one of them and started planting huge fat cyclamen corms (how do I know which is the right way up?) and then realised it was time to get showered and presentable for the tiler chappy.  OH has hoed our front drive and parking area which is fine grey gravel and home to all sorts of volunteers.  3rd time he's done it!  We sat on a bench having coffee and I spotted bindweed growing up thru a 3'/90cm high pile of chipped bark waiting for us to have enough rain to make my rose and clem beds and then plant and mulch them.  Flipping Nora!

Lovely pots on your stairs Cheyn.  Well done.

Joyce - I trust you enjoyed the sunshine and took advantage while you could.   Cosmos has been hiding all day, apart from a brief spell playing outside with Minstrel because, despite treatments, we found a tick on his chin and sprayed it.   Not a happy kitten.

Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

I seem to have spent almost all the afternoon winding wool to make a pompom for son's woolly hat ... I'd forgotten how long it takes to make a pompom ...... an occupation for small children on wet afternoons .... but I only have very big children now image

Time to make gammon egg and chips now ........... form an orderly queue ........image

Cheyngel.....keep at it .....I couldn't boil an egg when I left home let alone care for a plant .....I never liked the smell of my mum's favorite geraniums as they were omnipresent in the little gardens of Dublin where I grew up ....if you can bear the wait I love cacti .....I posted this as one of my first posts on GW and I believe it was Pansyface who told me what it was .....we bought this as seed when I first met my wife ....20 years together this year image

we had no idea it would eventually bring forth such a beauty .....not a very nice smell  I hasten to add but magnificent in every sense of the word

So , when I see your 5 plants and the fact that you feed and prune the collective plants .....I see a person who cares .....and in life that is what it really is about.....caring image

Love the steps, Cheyngel. You could even do veg and herbs in that space.

Beautiful bloom, Dachalover - even better that it has a sweet link with your beloved.

Dove - doing a boiled gammon with sweet potatoes here, but now you've mentioned egg...?

Just potted-up some little Asters and Phlox for late summer display - both lilac-y purples (well should be!). The Aster is called Berryl - so will keep one for my sis, as our Grandma's name was Beryl.

I bought a "pom-pom maker from Hobbycraft, but it isnt very effective, not tight enough better off with 2 circles of card, the "old fashioned way".  More bad news on the daughter with  renting agent problems, she spoke to the landlord who said he would sort it, they havent rung him back as promised, but rang my daughter today, were rude and nasty (probably because they got a ****** from landlord! This woman told her a completely different "story" from the last agent, said she had done one partiulcar set of checks on the boyfriend, which aparently were the WRONG ones, and NOT a check for him to go on the tenancy which is what they needed, ALSO told my daughter YET again, she HAS to pay for checks for herself (inspite of the fact she has been in the property for 6 years) and that if they dont like the outcome she will have to move.  She has spoken again to landlord.  Unfortunately he doesnt live near and works full time, because I said its a shame they cannot visit the letting agent together. Also heard that grandson, (oldest daughters) is in Hospital not well, awaiting some kind of op.Perhaps shouldnt go into details on here.

It rained this morning so decided to go to Norwich and do some shopping instead of enjoying the seaside in Cromer. Rained this afternoon in Norwich, only 15°. On the way home it still rained, 14° at 6pm, put the heating on. Thought this was supposed to be summer.

Anyway, ordered the fabric from Dunelm I wanted for covering cushions in the French house, they hadn't got it in stock, then in the city I bought christening presents for 3 grandchildren and a birthday present for son 2 and a nightie in M & S. Then we had tea and cake in a rather nice tea room. On the way home we went to Tesco for veg, milk etc.

Nice surprise when we got home, a friend in the village rang to ask us for dinner tomorrow evening.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
