Hi any ideas of what this plant is please?
Hi, i would love to know what plant this is. i went on a crazy, final saloon weekend of buying plants for my garden at loads of places and lost track on what is what. its grown nearly 3 feet in a month. i think its a wild flower but im not sure. any help or advice would be great as ive called it arny as it grows like its on steroids! photos are a month ago when it was in a pot and now its in the garden and over 3 feet tall! its just had a nastydose of black fly that ive just pulled off.

ive juat googled elder and im pretty sure you are right. will move it to another part of the garden at the weekend as it looks like it will grow into a monster! thanks again Cloggie.
I think it's Valeriana officinalis.
Elder stinks, have the stems and leaves got a strong pungent smell? If not, then not elder

there is no smell to it at all so it could be. i will take a look on google many thanks for your reply.
Theflowers of the Valeriana smell nice. It like a fair bit of moisture if it's in the sun.
Also, elder is a shrub/tree, it would be woody at the base.

Get some ladybird larvae to feast on those aphids - they'll have a field day!
Elder stems aren't ridged like the ones in the pic. Young elder stems are smooth and covered with a thin silvery grey bark.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I defer to others Mike155 - they know better than I.
Does elder stink?! Is it a particular type that stinks?
Mine is a black lace sambuca elder and it doesn't stink at all
Valerian Officinalis. Black fly very common at this time of year. White flowers turning very pale pink as it ages.
