I can see that there are a couple of new shoots are just breaking out. It may be that it was planted late in the season and a bit slow to settle down and make new shoots.
It was bought in March and planted up straight away. I held out until I saw one for sale at the Malvern Show on Friday and it was in bloom ? It does have one little shoot, but thats pretty pathetic in comparison to my others which are romping away! Its my absolute favourite too, so I gave it the best spot
I think you are being a bit unfair on the posters who have a different experience with Parkers Jimmmy - we all have different opinions.
I did a quick price check comparing them with the company I bought bare root roses from over winter and they are two to three times cheaper so personally I wouldn't expect the same quality.
Clematiscrazy, it looks like you are keeping it well watered and other than chop off the dead bits I don't see what more you can do. I would persevere with it and keep Parkers up to date, compare it with your other plant if necessary. Good luck
I would cut down to a growing shoot and keep well watered.
I think it is too late now for bare root plants. I had an email offering bare root raspberries. Mine are already in flower, and Polka 18 inches high from a cut down. I don't give much chance for planting bare root stuff now.
On line buying is always a bit difficult obviously because you do not see that actual plant you are buying. I have brought perrenials from j. Parkers and to be honest that are never the best as they normally need a lot of care to get back to a quality plant.
Dorset Perennials and Paddock Plants are very good based on quality of plant and customer care
Hello ClematisCrazy, Sorry to hear about your rose and the shop's response. I am experiencing something similar.
I bought bare roots from 3 online shops - David Austin, Style and British Roses. I am really disappointed with the growth of two of them (hybrid tea roses Claret and Chicago Peace) which happen to be from British Roses:
Compared to my other orders from Style (hybrid teas) and David Austin (a non DA rose, Perl d'Or), the above only have a couple of stems and leaf growth on the top of the stems. No buds. They are very widely spread out and I don't know if growth will come from the middle area and fill it out or if it will remain bare. ?
These are the other bare roots - look how bushy and leafy they are and also some buds.
Jparkers Ts and Cs says if there are no buds by 1st June contact them. I did contact them already and said I was disappointed with the growth. They asked for and I sent photos and an explanation of how I planted them (same for all). They replied saying they think these will 'get away' once the ground warms up i.e. no refund will be given at the moment. To be honest when they all arrived there was a big difference between them all. The DA one had the best root system and I was worried about the BR ones from the beginning as there were only 2 sticks/stems as oppose to 4-5 on the others.
Do you think they growth will improve? I do wonder if I will get any buds or more leaves on them.
As for JParkers I was happy with my tulip and amaryllis orders. Maybe price has some influence on the quality when it comes to roses? BR were also cheaper than Style or DA. I just don't know though - because I have also spent £5.99 on potted roses from a local garden centres and they have grown just as well as DA potted roses at 3 times the price.
I'm not being the least bit unfair to those posters who disagree, the facts are "that" rose should never have been sent out in the first place!
There are always people who defend the indefensible and contradict some one or some thing!
As I said our gardening society bought at a discount quite a lot of plants and shrubs some years ago, most of the stuff was total crap!
I did not learn the lesson, two years ago I bought just under £100 worth of perennials mainly echinaceas to share with my father and father in law!
They were so called bare root plants and that is all they were roots, which arrived in poly bags, the plants were completely dried out, mouldy and dead, would Parkers accept it, no, even when I sent photographic proof!
They said plant them and if in a month they have not grow, let them know.
I, my father and father in law actually can tell when a plant is living or not!
It is bad enough getting sent rubbish for oneself without having to explain to others about them!
Anyway I eventually with a lot of correspondence got around £70 refunded, but in three parts they don't like parting with money, I gave up after that!
And I don't blame anyone but myself, as I had see the gardening society's order, so I should have taken heed!
I bought strawberries and raspberry canes from them, never again, the over half the strawberries did not take and 4 of the 10 canes have not yet come out. On speaking to others, Parkers are a poor company.

It's incredibly late in the season to be buying bare root roses ... mine are all in bud and many are flowering

I like hayloft plants but they are pricey but if you want something a bit different their plants are of very good quality
