Novel way to remove moss and weeds from a lawn!

Some friends of mine asked their gardener to remove moss and weeds from their lawn.
They happened to catch sight of him sprinkling petrol over the lawn and setting light to it before they could stop him!!
The grass vanished as did the moss and weeds (plus some shrubs were singed).
Seemed a bit drastic but they now have a beautiful green lawn with no moss or weeds and they say it looks like a bowling green!!

That must be as far from wildlife friendly as you can get

What a total idiot!
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
poor worms!
I suppose so but is it really any worse than other chemical lawn weedkillers I wonder?
I don't think it would hurt worms as the flames are over in a flash and just the surface is affected, after all the roots of the grass are unharmed.Bit like a forest or prairie fire where everything flourishes afterwards.
Exactly! They will all flourish afterwards. If it s only burnt the surface it hasn't killed the roots, if it has killed the roots then it's killed the worms. Worms are very good for a lawn.
Lots of creatures other than worms live in the soil and on its surface ....... some of them microscopic .......... and that's without the danger of fire spreading to fences, buildings and of course, human beings and their homes. Totally insane and inane.

I think it is worse than other chemicals but I wouldn't use those either. I can live without that sterile monoculture of the English lawn

And that was done by a gardener! Wouldn't let him lose on my garden.
I can see how that method would get rid of moss as it's basically all on, or very near, the surface. Less convinced that it would get rid of the deeper rooted weeds. No, I'm not advocating it as a system for general use!
