If you keep an eye on the butterflies you see about and then Google them, you will be able to find out which plants the caterpillars need. Nettles do seem to be valuable plants.
Thanks for your input Cloggie & Posy. Luckily for me. My garden backs onto a farmers field which has plenty of nettles (most probably why I have loads of butterflies). The nettles are on the other side of my hedgerow so apart from chopping it back when it tries to invade my plants I will otherwise leave well alone. That's the butterflies happy & me one happy bunny. All I need to do now is choose a nice plant to go in the space I was thinking about
