Yes Kmcg, onion but not necessarily as strong as the ones in the kitchen. But always a hint of onion.

I've just been out to check and as usual they have no label image

The nectaroscordum  do not have the  same leaf arrangement.  The leaves do not smell of onion or garlic.  The bottom leaves on mine  now have fine yellow streaking on , but this may be because they are bone dry under the eucalyptus.

My nectaroscordums have an oniony smell, but agree this isn't one

It does have a slight oniony / leek smell to it I think...

I realise that this is a very old topic, but I have the very same plant as your photo growing in my garden at the moment; same height too.  Did you ever discover what it is?

    Thanks
  • I brought many allium bulbs last year planted them and planted a certain bulb at the back of my border as it said it was a giant variety and very tall! And look what has sprouted! Exactly the same as yours! And I planted the 3 bulbs in line and with sticks to show where I planted bulbs! Weird.
  • Has anyone discovered what this plant is as I have the exact same issue with my alliums I bought - also purple sensation - and which now look like tall pointy leeks. So weird

Last year at the Tatton Show I bought 3 Alium bulbs from a Dutch supplier- the photo on the left shows what I have grown, the one on the right is what I was expecting! What have I got - any ideas? They look like Leeks to me!

@tgfzccmzwrbxcTsqOz They look like my "giant" Alliums that get 2,5 m high. I bought two of them. I still remember my neighbour saying, "and everything is so big, even the Alliums, they are normally just so" and showed hip height. I had a giggle.
My ones have that flower head by now.

    I my garden.

Alliums in the recent pix @tgfzccmzwrbxcTsqOz . They're all related, leeks/alliums - ie onions.
    It's how they grow.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
