    so thats a stayer then?

    i had started digging under the roots, but I'll leave it and hope it's ok.

    would it be ok to trim back some of the long grass so the flowers can be seen better?

    You could just dig it out then separate the iris bulbs and replant them for next year. They are spring flowering.
