Lilys growing already?

sevbrownsevbrown Posts: 33

Hi I bought a pack of 25 oriental lilly bulbs last year and planted them in pots, the flowered beautifully and left them on pots overwinter.

Decided to make a Lily bed this year and planted all in a raised bed in february, just been and checked and have a lot of growth, most about 5inches tall!

I didnt recieve the bulbs till early may last year so no idea if this is normal?

Im in the uk in merseyside and we have had lots of rain and mildish weather if that has any bearing.

Will this early growth mean early flowering?

  • I also live on Merseyside and planted some Lilium regale in the ground in May of last year. There is no sign of growth, but it is still early. If yours are growing and look healthy then there is nothing to worry about. They will flower according to the weather over the next few months.

I raised lots in pots, a cheap offer somewhere, they are all over a foot tall, bit concerned they will get caught out by a frost

I am on the south coast and mine are about an inch tall. All planted in raised beds along with allium purple sensation which is about a foot tall.

I'm in London and mine started breaking the surface a couple of week ago, in shaded soil. They're now about 2-4" tall.

I also thought it was a bit early.
