How long do the tubers take to produce shoots. I planted my newly shop bought tubers two weeks ago in a cold greenhouse and so far there is nothing showing above soil level. I am not sure how often to water them. What would you recommend?
I dont use them as cut flowers but most would be good for cutting, not sure about duet tho.
And Guernsey Donkey some of mine have sprouted and they took about 4 weeks but they shouldn't be too long depending on temperatures. plus only water about once a week maybe longer don't overwater them.
Right, I had better hold fire on the watering then - it is so dull here although fairly mild - I don't want to over water them - thanks for the advice Hostafan & Daniel. I have Bishop of Llandaff & one other type whose name escapes me - both single flowered.

Dove, what have you done??!! That's lovely. I don't need, can't cope with any more. Where can I get it? No, don't tell me......
Isn't Joe lovely?
My favourites are duet, David Howard, little Robert, snowflake, cafe au lait, golden sceptre, painted Madame and ferncliffe illusion.
hogweed, it's not a competition. Well, not for me anyway.
Some are , to say the least " a bit more competitive " than I.
So long as you love your garden and your plants, it doesn't matter if someone has more , or less.
Some of us have more room to play with, some have less.

they look great. Are they all good cutting dahlias?

Just above dry would be my advice , until they start growing strongly.
You see them shoot in packs in garden centres when they're bone dry. They don't need water to break their dormancy.
