Not meaning to rub 'salt in the wound' so to speak , but amazingly enough our local 'garden centre' , for want of a better name , were selling these today @ 4-99 a pot !!
Quick question is there an easy way to identify Spanish bluebells? Daughter has a lot of bluebells coming up I don’t want to get rid of them if there is any chance they are not Spanish.
Thanks Anni they are not in flower yet just buds but the leaves are very thick and fleshy so I am thinking Spanish. Will read back about the best way to dispose of them.
No problem Debs, l suspect from your description that they are Spanish ones. Was reading above about using diluted oven cleaner, do you think if l sprayed Mr Muscle on them, that would do the trick?
I would not go that far think I will just dig and pull up. It’s a small patch under a sycamore tree and a few plants dotted about I reckon we can keep on top of that and the Muscari. Aquilegia self seeded everywhere too and lots of forget me nots. Will leave those in situ mostly I think. Funny how some plants are more “forgiven” than others isn’t it?
Spanish Bluebells are such a menace I think they should be a notifiable weed. You should see my mum's rockery, it's smothered in them. Quarter of a mile away, there are ancient native bluebell woods.
"What is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbour".
I agree but as there are no native bluebells in close proximity I think dig up and pull leaves system will be sufficient. Each to their own but I don’t use weed killers and apparently they don’t work anyway.
I thought I had dug up the dreaded bells, but no they still came back, I have since tried various weed killers again with no success, but I am not giving up, will carry on trying
