doghouse, my paperwork is semi sorted into bulging folders and chucked in a chest that the TV sits on - not exactly accessible. I've also been chucking out manuals for stuff that died years ago.

Your local recycling centre should take those. I have a RC near me and its brilliant for all small defunct electrical items.

Yes,   don't know which is which and one of them might be vital but probably not.

Keep having to give the overheated shredder a chance to cool down. Paper was much thicker last century.

I put all my instruction manuals into a bulging folder and have a clear out every year when I do the kitchen drawers! Last year I had a huge clearout of paperwork and shredded or burnt stacks of old stuff - had never thrown out a bank statement or credit card statement ever so that was a  huge job. Along with old utility bills, payslips etc etc. Amazing how much paperwork there is in your life. I feel an awful lot lighter now its all gone!

You know when you're given a bowl of horrible soup and you keep thinking, one more spoonful and I'll get past the pattern and then I can stop. You keep on spooning, but make no real progress. That's what it's like. I've filled two sacks and don't seem to be getting anywhere. image

When my father died the tax people, solicitor and accountant wanted his last 7 years bank statements.

I'm like Pete, I have years and years of bank statements. They are in files on the top of the bookshelves in the study, which is a large room.

In France there are some papers that you have to keep for 30 years, but I can't remember which they are. Better be safe than sorry!
