Any ideas what this plant is?

Apologies - I don't seem to be able to turn the photo round the right way. Any ideas? It appeared out of nowhere last year. Those tall bits had seeds on the end in summer and the leaves at the bottom seem to be slightly serrated as I have cut myself on them.

I think it's Carex pendula but the picture cuts off all the flower/seed head bits.

they're crafty little blighters. They look so lush and healthy , it's easy to be fooled by them . I'm afraid I find them weeds in my garden and remove them asap.

Thanks for the quick identification. Had a look at pictures online and it's the same plant. Described as invasive. Yet another thing to try and dig out! It seems that half of the plants in my garden are taking over.

don't panic about it Splandy. The seedlings are very easy to spot and remove. If you wanted to leave the parent plant, just cut the flower shoots back before they set seed.

Oh dear. The seeds went everywhere last year, I heard them sprinkling around every time I brushed past it. Didn't have time to deal with it with a young baby. Does this mean I'm going to find it growing everywhere now?

yes, but they're easy to dig up as babies.
