Help Save the Hedgehogs Part II

  • I dont know what happened last night, but this morning I found the hog feeding box upside down, still with its lid on, standing on its brick ( that stops the wind taking the lid off), with a triangle of plastic broken above the door, and most of the food gone!
Surely some stupid cat wouldn't try to get into a hole only big enough for its head! Even the largest hogs have to duck to get in!
Unluckily didn't have the night camera on.😯😯😠😠🤔🤔🤔🙄

@purplerallim i had a similar thing gone on with my feeding station. During the night we have 3 hogs and i think that the 3 was in there at the same time, they probably couldn't get out.
A few nights before i saw 2 in there and the one had to wait for the other to finish eating.
  • The food is out at the moment in case any hog wakes up, as the adults have been asleep for 6 weeks, one baby is in rescue, and the other hasn't been for over a week . That's why I thought cat @Logan4. There is enough room for two hogs to eat side by side , with a third waiting in line🙂, but the hogs aren't heavy enough to turn the box over.

@purplerallim I don't think that it was a cat, we have cats in our garden at night and they just ignore it.
  • No photo - a mature hedgehog taken to our rescue centre by us a few weeks ago has just been released into our garden.  He was found at the side of a busy road nearby, we it, took it to the centre for care and is now is fit and was able to be released here. Let's hope it makes a home here.

That's great news @Guernsey Donkey2 hope that he does well.

  • Usually the cats here do too @Logan4 , but it had to be something big enough to get stuck by a 4 inch square hole, and heavy enough to turn over a 18×12×12 inch box with a brick on top, and break a 4 inch triangle of plastic from above the door.🤔
  • Nice to hear a success story @Guernsey Donkey2 😁
  • Thanks @ purplerallim, Bruce didn't return tonight for food, so I hope he has found it elsewhere or bedded down for the winter.  The temperature really is too warm here for hibernation yet though.
  • It's been too cold here for a few weeks now for the adults to come out for food, and these next few days are supposed  to be even colder. Hopefully he is tucked up and snug somewhere. 🙂
