Help Save the Hedgehogs Part II

  • That is an  incredibly low survival rate AnniD and could be even worse yet - how sad that is for the hogs and the carers.  Let's hope that somewhere else the hogs are thriving and managing to produce a good strong litter or two each year.

I am still waiting to see some more youngsters here - with all the hedgehog courting that has occurred just outside our house this year there should be some results by now.  We are regularly feeding at least 3 if not 4 and our neighbour has 4 or 5 most evenings too.  She has the advantage of a camera set up, whilst we just watch ours as we are relaxing in our lounge in the evenings.

Very little activity at the moment @AnniD , little food going. Today I've been wondering if there has been a sparrow hawk about as no birds feeding either. Thunderstorms tomorrow.
Hubby says he will put photo on computer tomorrow 🙄, what is worse (for me not hogs) he came home from work with the news that a workmate has had three babies brought to his garden.🙄😠

How did they get there @purplerallim , did hedgehog mum bring them do you mean, or did someone find them ?

Mum brought them, at 6pm so everyone could watch. Mine never come that early.

Aah bless :) .  At the moment mine is turning up around 10pm, but the last visit was 4.30 and he (?) didn't leave the garden until around 4.40 am when it was pretty light. Still waiting to see babies here.....
  • We usually have one coming around 6 p.m., it passes the empty food bowl and trundles into the field where it scoffs dropped on the grass bird seed and then has a little wander around the field coming back to the then filled (by me) hog food bowl where it eats hog food and is joined around 8.30 - 9 p.m. by a couple of other hogs.  Most evenings one will fall asleep in IN the food bowl! They are funny creatures aren't they?

I stepped in hedgehog poo on the path at our front door. I haven't actually seen a hedgehog there yet but he / she must have been there. Definitely hedgehog poo. First time that I've been happy to step in poo lol.

You should see the excitement here in Spring @Bijdezee ! Each time the poo appears for the first time it's like Carnival time in this house 😁
