We have 3 generations of hedgehogs visiting our garden now. Two were rescue hogs which have bred and are now "grandparents" to two delightful little creatures. We have plenty of natural food for them here but we do supplement their food with a few cat biscuits each evening. One of the parents must have asthma or is just naturally noisy - we can hear him coming up the garden path with all his snuffling and grunts. They are lovely to watch.
Would anyone be able to advise us on which type of camera set up is the best to buy to be able to watch our hogs?
I use a Bushnell "Natureview" bought from Naturespy; they were very helpful with the set up. There is also a Simon King you tube video which I found invaluable, not being very tech savvy!
Story in the paper today about a hedgehog who had to be rescued by the fire brigade after he/she got stuck in a fruit bowl! I also read about one that was found in a lady's handbag. I assume they are getting in through a cat flap , can't believe people leave their doors open overnight in this day and age
I'm now totally addicted to watching the hogs! First thing I do in the morning is check to see how many visitors we've had to the feeders. Am I sad or what?!
I have to admit that I have joined your "club" too. We set up the video on our normal camera - with tripod last night for the very first time. The video only ran for 25 minutes but in that short space of time we had three visits from hedgehogs (or it could have been the same one visiting 3 times).
I will be setting up the camera again this evening - it beats real time t.v. programmes - this is happening right outside our FRONT DOOR!

I've heard of foxes through the cat flap but not hedgehogs, what have we done introducing them to cat food?!
Thanks for pointing this system out to us Clathymacd - we are looking into various models and I will add to my birthday wish list.....or Christmas.

I'm the same, we can be sad acts together!

Too right.Who needs the misery of the soaps, when you can watch drama and entertainment of this quality?
Absolutely!
I think we're the lucky ones, what a privilege it is to watch critters that lots of folk will never see....
