Thanks for that I have been putting out Hog biscuits in a shallow dish for the same with water. I'll only get on of the mouse and see if it's taken if so I'll get some more. I saw one out last year don't know if it's was this one she seemed OK so I left her/him to it and just put out a few saucers of water near to where I'd seen him/her. Do you know if more than one family would live in a small garden because if so I'll make another hog house but don't want to put it in the wild flower patch.
In my opinion, I’d say it is highly unlikely for more than one family of hoggies to live in a small garden. I’ve only been involved with hoggies for about two years now, so I’m still learning I’ve seen aggressive behaviour amongst males before, but that was during or just before mating season, Mr Hoggy was a little bit moody after Miss Hoggy decided to go with another Mr Hoggy 🤭 I would However, build another Hoggy house so your family you have at the moment can have a choice of homes 😁
Thanks tammy77 we'll finish putting up the Greenhouse then I'll have the room to make another Hog Hotel I have some roof felt so I'll be able to make it waterproof and it will blend in with everything out there. I put some food down by the steps from the house onto the patio last night and saw mum feeding not sure if the babies eat the mouse or if it was mum but all has gone. They are still all together thank goodness. Question how old would these new one have to be before they have babies of their own. I don't anticipate having loads of hedgehogs running round my garden but would like their numbers to increase and spread to other gardens.
If I have learned anything from this it's make sure they can't get under somewhere your likely to want to move but provide the with somewhere safe. I thought I'd done this but they had other ideas, fascinating to see their nest, well what I saw in such a short time.
Good question, I’d say when they are a healthy weight is a good time. 6 months upwards I’d say. So all being well, your babies could have babies next year! 🦔🦔🦔🦔
Like I’ve already said, I’m still learning. I’ll ask on Thursday when I’m on duty
ps: I’ve been called Tommy before, never Tammy though... 🙈 😂😂
Our hedgehog house is tucked away in a quiet corner under the hedge and next to a gap in the fence which is one of the entrances/exits they use. They've been caught on camera going past it, and l had some lovely picture of a hedgehog going backwards and forwards with leaves, making it nice and snug. This is the second one my husband built, for some reason they didn't use the first one. We gave that to our next door neighbour and in less than a week it had a spiky occupant @timmy77, l think l'm right in thinking that generally you would only get one hedgehog (or mum and babies)in a garden at a time. I don't think they like to share when it comes to living together? Could you ask about that for me on Thursday please ?

The location of your hoggy house sounds perfect, away in a corner from any hustle and bustle. You are correct when it comes to hoggies living together, you will usually only see one at a time in your garden. Babies don’t tend to stay with their mum for long before they are off snuffling about for themselves, usually about 8 weeks I think.
timmy77, I'm so sorry about misspelling your name. To much breaking of boulders at the weekend has made my finger stiff along with the aritus finding it hard to type. Have just been watching a youTube video of a female hedgehog giving birth, boy wish it was that quick for us.
Don’t worry about the typo @NannaBoo, I’m always doing it 🙈 Hope your fingers recover a bit. I too have a touch of arthritis so I know how it feels. I’ve seen the birth of hoglets too, very quick!
Sons home so off to move some wood so I can make the area ready for my GH on Monday. timmy77 I don't let thing hold me back if I did nothing would get done and I would just vegetate and that's not a good idea. I'm hoping sometime in the next fortnight I can get over to the rescue center and see the work they do but will phone and ask first.
