100 year old indoor GrapeVine
in Fruit & veg
Hello,
A friend of mine owns the most fabulous 100 year + indoor grapevine.
However the growth spurs are very mouldy and during last summers harvest, a lot of the grapes turned very mouldy before they ripened.
I'm attaching some pictures.
I've been reading up and apart from feeding the vine start of spring, others talk about hygiene but also spraying the vine with a bicarbonate of soda / water mixture..
Does anyone have experience with this or any advice?
Many thanks Sharné

hi....still me...this is a picture of the mould on the spurs...thanks Sharne. Most of the entire Vine looks like this. Thank you for any help or advice. Sharne
Looks like woolly aphid rather than mould to me:

Phew.....thanks Bob!
Try brushing them off with a small stiff brush, such as a nail brush etc. A little washing up liquid in water may help with brushing off the waxy fluff. They could also be mealy bugs which look similar - same treatment.
The grapes going mouldy is probably unrelated - better ventilation will help, as will thinning the grapes out on each bunch using vine scissors.

Excellent advice again, Thank you Bob. We did have a good prune this weekend ~ see picture, which only shows part of the vine
.... will be a big job washing each tip...but will try with some of the worst effected bits.
Again, thank you for your replies,
Sharné
I agree with bob. Woolly aphids on the vines. The grape splitting and going mouldy is often caused by irregular watering and inadequate ventilation. If they are dry, then get a lot of water, the grapes swell too fast and split.
Pretty good pics! I loved it.
Thanks again for the replies!
What a magnificent vine! And a nice room too. It would be nice to see a picture of the whole space when it starts growing again.
Thank you Redwing....I will definitely keep you posted / and yes...its super wonderful to see the whole thing... will take new snaps in the summer.
Thanks again for the replies,
Sharne
