    Hi GD2

Did. You say you were ordering Pond Plants from Paul Bloomfield as he supply's Astibles as quite a few different ones look at moisture loving plants on his site

  • Thanks Zenjeff - I didn't think of looking for Astibles on their site. From what I have read they seem to grow fairly easily and are quite tough too. How long is their flowering season? Do you have a picture of your Astibles, and how difficult are they to grow from seed?

  • Pretty aren't they, I especially like the red, it is striking.   They seem to make good ground cover with little fuss - do they die down completely in the winter?

Chiltern seeds sell a couple of different varieties (seeds) and their delivery to the channel islands is the same as mainland UK

Guernsey- they do die back but the flowers turn brown and feathery so I leave them over-Winter for some height and interest. I have some under my apple tree and some by the pond... will see if I have any pics.

My garden and I live in South Wales.
  • That's interesting to know, I will google Chiltern seeds raisingirl.  Yes, I like to leave interesting looking plants to overwinter, although it is so tempting to cut back, we try to leave a good selection of plants for hibernation and effects Aunty Rach. A photo would be good if you have one. Thanks.

  • A lovely scene aym, they do look quite beautiful in an architectural way. Our garden gets quite blown about with the wind, and is no good for gladiolus, tall dahlias and Chrysanthemums, so these colourful plants will help to fill some voids.

Incidentally I went to a garden centre today and their Astibles were £13.00 each - potted up, but nothing  was showing above the soil in the pot, the plants had completely died down.  I had better start saving my pounds!

GD.....That's daylight robbery!!!!!   I pay less than half that for named varieties in 1litre pots but Astilbes can be bought reasonably cheaply.
