Been up t'plotment this weekend, skipped last weekend and weeds have sprung up, so carried out some wheedling. Don't know what the main weed is, like a pale cat's ear with connecting raggedy roots🤔
Levelled the greenhouse area again, putting it up next weekend.
Beetroot have germinated, haven't thinned them yet, will see if any more come up first. Sweetpeas have also come up, might have weeded some out as I forgot about them. Forgot also I sowed nasturtium seeds where I planted the daffs in green the other week so I guess they won't be coming up. I dug up the 3 nice daffs from the free mix I planted and put them in the garden. I'm calling them Lemon Drizzle until someone sues me😐
Had a frost this week, at least one, there was ice in the bird bath, that's got to be the last surely. On the other plots some little plants have been hit but I haven't really got anything soft.
One of my recently purchased apple cordons has gone dry and crispy and the new growth is flaking off. I think thirst rather than frost though, hopefully I can recover it. The other cordon I bought at the same time has full leaves so a bit odd.
Hello , hope apple cordon recovers , does sound more like lack of water , usually frost tend to blacken leaves , are you feeding them with Blood fish & bone ? Frost , well I never ❄️ Great weather at moment , have been on holiday so busy catching up with garden/allotment
Got the base and frame up today. Had to re-base the base as it was less level than I thought. Also had a faff with the door but eventually got it together and it slides nicely.
The nuts seem to keep unscrewing but the frame seems sturdy when they are tight.
Getting excited now, seems like I have a proper allotment🤠 So glad I got this plot and moved from the allotment in the lanes, it's so much nicer.
Vic , have you decided what you are doing with the inside of the g/h ? Personally I put slabs down middle , with a membrane covered in gravel , using grow bags & pots Had another good day at allotment putting in Brassicas
Hi GWRS, I wasn't going to put anything on the ground, do you think I need to?
I thought I could grow stuff in the ground using the greenhouse as a giant cloche...
I've never had a greenhouse before so will have to experiment with regards shading, watering, ventilation etc but I thought growing things in the ground would reduce the watering?
Hello , growing in the ground is fine but after a while you generally need to replace some of the soil , therefore , for my 8’ by 6 ‘ greenhouse I put a weed membrane down , slabs down middle and a good thick layer of gravel and grow in grow bags / large pots but the g/h is at home so no problem watering I would still put a path down the middle whatever you decide is better for you
You can buy an automatic window opener , easy to fit , I am not into DIY I would think about shading , g/h can get very hot , perhaps get a min/max thermometer so you can see what the temperatures get up to
I also bubble rap the g/h in winter to keep it warm as I do over winter pots in there
On a positive note would not be with out , o/h sews loads of seed for allotment plants Enjoy Let’s us known how you get on and any questions , just ask
Thanks GWRS, I will have a path down the middle, setting up the staging tomorrow so will have a better idea what space I will have. I suppose I could move the staging each year and dig out and manure the ground on rotation🤔 I'll muse on it. I got a free auto vent with the g/h, haven't unpacked it yet, will look at it tomorrow.
Haven't got a photo to account for today's efforts, was too sun-tired to take one.
Got the glazing done on the greenhouse incurring only one cut🤕, putting the seals on nearly broke me in pieces, took forever.
Have a pane of glass left over somehow, sure I haven't missed one. Also got one small triangle pane to fit in the rear apex. It's a whisker out of fitting into the S clips that slot a pane onto the glass below, so I guess my spirit levelling was a bit out. I thought I'll just bend the lower S out with my pliers rather than take it all down and start again.😉

I havent fed the cordons at all yet, I think they've only been in a few months and I chucked manure around them when I planted them.
Will check on its progress on Saturday and give it another watering.
