Not exactly Christmas related per se but does smell quite Christmassy... for the first time this year I made Thieves Vingear which I'm using as a multi-purpose cleaning spray, it has Vingear (obviously! ) cinnamon sticks, cloves, citrus peelings and lavender flowers too, all fermented for a few weeks in a glass jar before using around the house - it's smells like Christmas in a bottle - love it!
I just have my Nokia windows phone and iPad at the moment (that picture was taken with the mobile) I did have a canon digital camera but I broke it - over zealous picture taking claimed its digital life!
Phone cameras are so good nowadays aren't they? Most of the pics I post on here are taken on my iphone. I've got a Fujifilm finepix S that I treated myself to a few years ago, and the results are great - it's taken a while to get the hang of all its possibilities as of course my photography studies module back at art school were definitely pre-digital!!!
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Technology these days is awesome no doubt about it, though as you say it does take a while to figure all the settings out! One day (when we're millionaires... ) I'd like to have a dark room and develop photos the "old fashioned" way, my grandpa and dad spent a small fortune on decking one out but they had so much fun!
If you have a carpet cleaning machine, the Vax AAA+ Cleaning Solution is brilliant.
White distilled vinegar also has impressive carpet-cleaning powers. Just add some to your warm cleaning water. Not only does it brighten the carpet, but it removes any odours too. Don't worry, it doesn't leave the carpet smelling vinegary though - just clean and fresh.
If you have a stained patch of carpet, apply a paste made from white distilled vinegar and bicarbonate of soda, then wash along with the rest of your carpet.
Clove-studded oranges hung or laid in a warm place smell wonderful, especially if some cinnamon sticks are added to the equation.
I get your point about incense sticks - I do use them, but some of the scents can be hideous!
My favourite ones are Nag Champa and Wild Berry's Fresh Rain. These are lovely scents - not overpowering or sickly like some of the ones that you can buy.
Potpourri made from dried oranges, dried apples, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, etc is another great way to scent the house. Simply slice the fruit and leave it to dry in a warm oven for a while, then add the spices and place in bowls/baskets around the house.
Or a simmer pot is nice when you have guests expected. Apples, oranges, cinnamon, cloves, pine twigs, or whatever else takes your fancy, added to a pan of water and left to simmer on the stove equals a festive feast for the nose!
I hope you have a lovely Christmas, whatever it may smell like
Don't forget the lovely rich fruity smell of quince. Put in a bowl in a warm room and for two weeks they with fill it with fragrance. Thats if you haven't turned them into jelly already.
The smell of 'clean' beats any air freshener. I love the smell of clean washing and have been known to rub a bit of washing conditioner onto radiators for an instant waft of washing day!
I have a friend who is a candle fanatic and once asked me if I was burning a scented candle (from a top brand) - not sure if she was impressed or disappointed when I revealed that I had just had a satsuma!
