Had a grand walk on Sunday [after my little 'water issue' on Saturday ] down in Glen Etive, beside the five Starav Munros there. The target was the Corbett 'Stob Dubh' [the Black Hill/Peak or Caitlin's hill] which stands guard at the entrance to Glen Ceitlein. The locals were enjoying the early morning sun across the other side of the river - one lying down far left. Like a couple of bookends .... The hill comes into view. That isn't the summit, but the first 'shoulder'. The deep cleft divides it from the neighbouring section of the hill.
View south west across to the Munro, Beinn Sgulaird The bluebells are out in force just now. The scent was glorious in the warmth, but the bracken is taking off and threatening to overwhelm them... Some weathered rocks en route About two thirds of the way, and a grand view south of the 5 Munros on the east side of Glen/Loch Etive. From left - Meall nan Eun, Stob Coir an Albannaich and Ben Starav in the middle with it's twin summit. The other two are pretty much hidden. On the right [west] side of Loch Etive is Beinn Trilleachan [another lovely Corbett] Sgulaird and a couple more. The windy summit eventually gained [at approx 2,900 feet] and a view of the Black Mount hills [Stob Ghabhar and Stob a Choire Odhair] out to the east, Meall nan Eun on the far right The view north to Bidean nam Bian on the left, and the two 'Bookils' side by side in the middle. The Mamores and the Nevis hills were visible too, but a bit hazy in the pix The summit view across to Starav etc. Glas Bheinn Mhor's summit cone just visible now, peeking up in the middle between Starav and Albannaich
The 'Big Bookil' [Buachaille Etive Mor - The Big Herdsman] with it's Munro at each end of the ridge, and two Munro height tops in between Back down and a little stop for a paddle, and a view back up the Allt Ceitlein, which feeds down from Meall nan Eun and it's surrounding hills in Glen Ceitlein, and into the River Etive What I haven't mentioned is the 'Curse of Glen Etive' part 2. Having had to go home on Saturday, I returned on Sunday, looking forward to a good day. Unfortunately, on returning to the car, I had a flat battery....I'd left my side lights on...... I never use them unless it's dull [or dark!] and had put them on as it was quite shady on the Loch Lomond road. One of those daft things..... Thanks to a lovely couple of German tourists I flagged down, the car was started and I was able to get home. I'm never complaining about tourists again!
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
