Thank you Liriodendron. The Don Navigation takes 10'6" barges certainly up to Rotherham and possibly up to the Sheffield Canal Basin and I think there is still some commercial traffic from Rotherham. When I was young I spent a lot of time with my Grandad and we often walked along the canal and one day he told me that families lived on the barges. This surprised me of course so my Grandad, not being backward at coming forward, banged on the side of a moored barge and asked the bargee to show me where they lived - I was just a bit embarrassed but it was very interesting. My Grandad had had an interesting life and lots of stories and friends. We used to go to a little wooden hut and have a cup tea with a little old man in a suit and trilby who much later in life I discovered was the millionaire barge owner Vic Waddington. Don't get me started on old stories..
I have friends who live on a narrowboat on our canal, Oakridge. They have to be amazingly tidy... and it gets very cold in winter, even with a woodburning stove, and hot in summer. But they have a "bird's eye view" (literally!) of mergansers and kingfishers out of their windows.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Lovley photo oakridge. I love this thread - we get so many different views and locations
Sorry - I missed your reply scroggin. I love rainbows when there's all sorts of different weather and sky with them. You had a great day to be out today - we've had a decent few days here too and I'm at work - typical!.
I hope you get some good weather for Glencoe and the chance to do a few hills perhaps. There's plenty of choice in the area. The photos I've posted recently are of Beinn a Chrulaiste which is the Corbett across from the 'Big Bookil', and boasts some of the finest 360 degree views available anywhere. Straightforward and not terribly exciting - but on a good day, it's a terrific viewpoint
Have a bit of birthday cake for your partner - 21 again?
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I noticed a visitor down below the clothes line when I was hanging out the washing. He/She didn't move the whole time I was there, and even posed for some photos after I went inside for my iPhone .
We don't see Goannas often here, so it's a bit of a thrill. I hope he hasn't got his eye out for my baby Cunninghams Skinks though. I threw some rejected dog food from fussy HRH. It'll be interesting to see later if the food has gone,
It's really beautiful Daisy. The colours are amazing. It'd moved on next time I checked, probably into the Acacia boormanii on the left. what started off as a small line of plants to discourage idiots from taking a short cut over the septic line, has become a very dense grove, but the yellow flowers are lovely in spring.

Interesting Pat. I Googled Goanna and can understand why you are concerned about your baby Skinks. Keep feeding it scraps!!
What a lovely creature Pat, the Goanna - looks like a minisaurus !!
