I always thought it was simply because of it's general location, western-ish edge , and it also trips off the tongue nicely, so it's a better place name to use than Largs, for instance. Although - 'away to the side like West Kilbride' would be quite good!  image

It's a good expression though, isn't it? image

Anyway, what an interesting contrast between Fairy's photos and Hosta's.  Lovely to see - thanks for posting them.  image

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Prior to its completion, the building stood about even with a rival project at 40 Wall Street, designed by H. Craig Severance. Severance increased the height of his project and then publicly claimed the title of the world's tallest building.[18] (This distinction excluded structures that were not fully habitable, such as the Eiffel Tower.)[19] In response, Van Alen obtained permission for a 38-meter (125 ft) long spire[20] and had it secretly constructed inside the frame of the building. The spire was delivered to the site in four different sections.[21] On October 23, 1929, the bottom section of the spire was hoisted to the top of the building's dome and lowered into the 66th floor of the building. The other remaining sections of the spire were hoisted and riveted to the first one in sequential order in just 90 minutes.[22]

    Completion[edit]

Upon completion on May 27, 1930,[1][2] the added height of the spire allowed the Chrysler Building to surpass 40 Wall Street as the tallest building in the world and the Eiffel Tower as the tallest structure. It was the first man-made structure to stand taller than 1,000 feet (305 m)

Thanks to Wikipedia for saving my typing this stuff out.

  • imageimageSome fantastic pictures, views, and scenery on here, and I can't take the credit for these pictures, and luckily it isn't in our pond.  We think this is the same Heron in summer and winter plumage in the local Victorian gardens. Picture taken by my OH. There are no goldfish left in the pond now ...!

Hi Hosta. I can't get Forkers to open again. I don't why, but it was doing that last weekend as well.

Hi Pat, have you contacted Nora about it?

Have you had any more rain? Any signs of "green" yet?

Nice shot Hosta - wonder why you're getting them lopsided though?

I had a couple of odd things happening yesterday, but only temporarily. Have you done the 'switching off and switching back on again' thing Pat?

Er, yes we've had more rain, thank goodness. Too soon for green. I don't know how to contact Nora, and besides it's Sunday! I'll try the on and off thing Fairy. image
