Best Salvias to grow?

Actually looks like CraighB is looking for a salvia which would be one of the key plant. Tall and full and long flowering. May be I should have started a different thread as suggestions for me would be different from what he needed.

I am not looking for a salvia to be the main plant and I dont have anywhere to protect it during winter. I can keep a few plants in conservatory and that is all. I am looking for some companion for all the daisy sorts of flowers and roses. Basically some bunch of blue/purple spikes to put among other plants, mostly in middle or front of them. Will "May Night" be good or "viola klose" ? Anything else that is hardy and longer blooming time than these two?

imageThis is my Salvia "Blauhugel" a couple of years ago in June. I posted a link above because I wasn't at home, but now I'm back and have access to my photos.

Although it looks rather tatty now, November, after a few frosts, there are still flowers on it. I've had it for years, can't remember when I bought it. But it is only about 12 -18" tall.

I've had Wendy's Wish which was great but they didn't survive the winter, then Love and Wishes which have been disappointing this summer. I expect Ember's Wish is the same family.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Busy-Lizzie, that is lovely. yes that sort of spikes image

so for short ones  "May Night" or "viola klose" or  "Blauhugel". Any positive negative or comparison of these?

For medium size Salvia 'Caradonna' . Any other suggestions...Is salvia black and blue any good?
