Potatoes in containers: not worth the expense and effort, bought ones are cheaper and just as good. They're only potatoes after all.
Salsify: the roots are thin, hard to dig out, and hard to clean and prepare. It's just not worth the trouble.
Crookneck squash: slow to start, and not as good as normal courgettes.
Quince: I have an Iranian quince tree, Isfahan, 5 years old, and as yet it does not produce fruit.
Pak Choi: Everyone's favourite. The sparrows love it. Butterfly larvae love it. Cover it with fine netting, and the greenfly destroy it. I've given up trying to grow it. Kale is better.
GWRS - I've got Mooli this year too - be interesting to see how it grows.
LeifUK - I've wondered about growing salsify, but thought that might be the case with the roots. And I agree with Pak Choi point - I've never been able to get it to the point where I get to eat it!!
Only just seen your message, sorry! I use a fine horticultural one but think I put in on too late ? Kale is still doing well though, just make sure I wash it well!!
