Anything wrong with these clematis?

As per title! What is the treatment for this? Do they have clematis wilt? They are both from small plants. They were both planted deeply. The first one is Star of India and never did establish very well. It produced one tiny 4-petalled flower and now is drooping - lower leaves are going brown:
Next one is Ville de lyon, also going brown near base.
Hope you can see, the photos are not great. I have a few other ones doing alright.
Thanks in advance.

They really need to be in the ground and not in pots as small as those. Clematis like a cool root run and the dark pots will absorb heat from the sun and cause the problems you are seeing on your clematis.
I agree. Plant them in the ground or move to bigger pots and feed and water well.
be patient too. Clematis can take a while to settle in and establish their root system before they take off above ground. They also flower more profusely if trained as horizontally as possible, rather than allowed to scramble vertically.
Okay, thanks both for your advice. I thought the pots were quite big! They're 2 litre ones! But I'll see if I have any bigger ones. Also they are quite young - they were just small cuttings so I thought the advice was they had to be raised in pots until they are bigger?
I have 4 clematis in pots as a temporary measure while they wait to move to my new garden. Each pot is 50cms deep and wide. I wouldn't go for 75cms for a permanent pot. so rather larger than 2 litres.
Your pots are probably fine for babies but they do need a lot of watering and feeding so maybe they're a bit hot, hungry and thirsty. Either way, they'll need bigger pots for next year's growth.
Okay, thank you. Will do some more watering. We'd had a lot of rain so I was worried about overwatering. But will hope for the best.
Rain on its own is not enough for pots. You need to check them at least once a week in the growing season and every day in a heatwave.
Thanks Obelixx - well we haven't had any heatwave where I am. It's been downpour after downpour and I have also been regularly watering. There are a few others, same young clematis cuttings in similar size pots, in same conditions, and they are doing well. So that's why I think with these two there is something else wrong. None of the others have browning leaves.
Most of mine have browning leaves at the base at this time of year but that's a tiny part of a huge plant. I wouldn't worry about yours as long as you pot them on and keep on tip of feeding and watering next spring and summer.
Nothing wrong with them, I would chop them down to the floor if I was you.
Really? I presume they will grow back at some point then? I was thinking to do that but was a bit scared in case it totally died!
