Lawn mower advice

Morning!

So after months of my partner tinkering with an old petrol lawn mower with no luck and growing frustration, I have decided to treat him to a new one! The lawn is quite big at the moment, and on a slight slope. I don't have a huge budget, £200 absolute tops so was wondering whether it is better to get a petrol mower again, or whether any of the cheaper end rechargeable cordless electric ones are any good. They seem a bit cleaner and greener to me.

Any experiences with these people?

Thanks.

  • I hate electric mowers, but . . . ages ago I bought a £49 one from a certain large chain beginning with B. It was on a cord and lasted for ages. Bit like using the vacuum cleaner (like I know how to use one of them, but you know what I mean!), but it worked well and, provided the grass was never allowed to get too long, made an excellent job of the lawn. I preferred the cord to the rechargeable because they don't have a long battery time.

  • I have one beginning with F, and which hovers over the lawn in an inconsistent way that would make Sir Christopher Cockerell cringe at the way his invention has been abused. Seriously, its fine for both flat bits and slopes but yes, it has a cord, and dragging said cord and extension lead around the garden is a pain.

I too would be most interested to hear from anyone who has experience of cordless models, because if its possible to buy one which comes anywhere near approaching the performance of a corded model, and which has a decent battery life (or comes with two good batteries as standard) I might just invest.

Bought a Bosch cordless with 2 batteries. It was Cr*p. Sent it back to Bosch and they said nothing wrong with it - but it would not cut both my lawns (small) on the 2 batteries. Eventually got my money back from Amazon. Spent it on a petrol Honda. Happy girl!

That was a silly wacky guess, give me some of your traits and I'll have another go.
