We had that too, Yvie.  But mostly drizzle...  yesterday's flooding turned out to be very minor, thankfully - just a few cellars and gardens.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

The sky is dull, the clouds are low, the wind is having a bit of a blow and its raining, not the best of starts.
The temperature is 7C, the forecast full of misery My Daff's closed up against the chill and its raining when will it depart.
They should write a song about it.

Frank, I think you should put pen to paper and write the lyrics :)

Joice21. My head is full of lyrics Four generations of musicians all pianists who played in dance bands after working all day as engineers. In those days you could travel anywhere by train and get home to Newcastle again at night. I had a piano when I could not reach the pedals and Dad would bring the latest music sheets home saying half a Crown when you can play that, much to the annoyance of Miss cook my very strict Tutor, I still have the scars on my hands from the whacks with a very long hard pencil.
Our house on a Sunday Night with the extended family arriving for tea then into the front room (only open weekends) and the piano going everyone singing, I knew all the words and from Irish stock way back could sing all the old favourites.I love music although the modern stuff goes over my head, a lot of screaming jumping and you can only hear the drums, as for wrapping I would bin the lot.
People complain about Lloyd Webber but he did bring back real lyrics and music as the full London play houses prove.
Meanwhile, the April showers still gently fall, it make my lawn grow very tall, I watch the shrubs as they come into bud, so when its raining have no regrets because it isn't raining rain you know its raining violets.
No comfort for those people with floods though.
    Frank.

My piano teacher hit the knuckles with a ruler when a mistake was made.
Needless to say that was many moons ago.

Joyce, Miss Cook would make me practice the very dry test pieces for the examinations and would say i was wasting my money taking them. I always passed. I started to play for one examiner and made a right muff of it so bold as brass told him my brain had been elsewhere could I start again, yes, and I passed with a high mark, those people were human after all.
I sat at the piano a few weeks back and for some reason "Played Alice Blue Gown" one of my first half crown pieces for Dad and his favourite, I also remembered the words. Having not remembered it for years I surprised myself.
It is still raining though getting brighter, it is probably raining Dandelions and Daisy's on the lawns around then they ask how i keep my lawn free of them?
