Ah, no I agree Ian I dont have porridge in the summer, yup do like muesli too, just had wholegrain toast today (Oh, and a danish, flaky thingy from Tesco! (Dont tell anyone)
I see the paper says "minus 6"but watched Monty last week (sob how will we cope without our Friday night fix) weather chap said frost here in the SE last weekend, rushed round like a mad woman - well madder than normal, getting everything tucked up, no frost, then the 2 days rain, what happened to that I wonder, ended up watering pots and baskets that were really wilted, and outside in t-shirts, people at Harbour (Eastbourne) some wearing shorts, t-shirts,sandles.
Stockton on Tees saw the river bank crowded last night as they watched a fantastic fireworks show, there was live music and entertainment all on a fine though cold night. Being on a hill I saw it from my front window and most of the neighbours must have been down at the river as there were very few bangs this year. A fine sunny though cold day again today, the Coastal front seems to be out at sea as it is clear here.
Muesli That is just cold porridge you may as well do what was the norm here in my childhood the porridge drawer. I huge cast iron pot of oats and water went on the damped down fire before we went to bed then it was poured into the well scrubbed porridge drawer in the dresser. We would cut a slice of porridge put it in a pan and heat it up adding milk or cream a spoonful of home made Jam and it was a feast before we had our home cured bacon fried bread eggs when in season mushrooms tomato's all when in season. Breakfast was always a main meal in our neck of the woods and my mornings still start with porridge and what ever fresh fruit we have.
Restricted diet here (food intolerance problems), so alternate between porridge, buckwheat flakes, sago with apple or tapioca with banana. The girls used to say "mum is eating frogspawn again"!
Lovely day here, no wind, full sun but it is going to be cold tonight - down to 9 degrees.
Johnny Canoe would think that 9 degrees was balmy GD. Even I think that is a lot warmer than here in the north west of the mainland UK. Am I right in thinking that Guernsey is not part of the UK? I am always unsure about the Channel Islands.
We class ourselves as part of Great Britain, but also in historic terms we are Les Isles Anglo Normandy, as we only came under English rule in 12..... under King John. We are not in the EU though.
With all the talk of tax havens we have a bad name right now, I hate it and all that the finance industry has bought to the Channel Islands. True Guernsey people (going back through the generations) earned their money through hard work, not from shuffling money from one jurisdiction to another. Apparently it is all legal but the U.K. government don't seem to approve of our status.
Thank you for your reply GD. You live in a lovely part of the world and clearly have better weather than most of us here on the mainland. I did read that we'd need a private health scheme when we visit which did puzzle me. ?
G.D. never been to Guernsey have been to Jersey and loved it, it was October and shirt sleeve order for most of the two weeks. Lovely people, the food was out of this world, a great holiday.
Stockton today is bright though cold, we appear to be just outside the stormy zone which is the other side of the Cleveland Hills. The trees are shedding their leaves now, the lawns had their last cut, the garden is tidy and the Fuchsia beginning to droop, are we heading into winter I ask.
