The sun shines down on Stockton's fields, the birds feed hungrily on the hedgerow berries, the squirrels dash up the garden fences collecting for their winter larder, tis Autumn and a typical scene for the time of year. The inland frost gave us a miss thanks to the North Sea our winter radiator and summer fridge. Our North East has a lot going for it.
We had our first frost here in Cheshire so I expect the frogs have taken to the pond so I am glad that I cleaned it out a few days ago. The bird feeders are popular again and today is a sparkling, cold sunny day.
Sunny and still here in South Wales but very chilly this morning so that's a sign to bring my Lemon Verbena in - it can stay on the windowsill of the 'junk room' as will have light but no central heating.
Minus 1.8C overnight - and the temperature rose to the dizzy heights of 6.5 by mid afternoon, in my garden on the edge of a little town in the Pennines. Nice and dry though.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Beautiful sunny, still day here too. No ice, no frost, not even cold really. Just wonderful to be outside in the few short hours of sunshine, the day is drawing in now.
I would have thought your newly planted shrubs would only needed a good soaking when planted this time of the year when it is so damp anyway. Just key an eye on them for a bit until established.?

I was a bit surprised at how cold it's suddenly become.
Should I back off watering the violas, heathers, newly planted shrubs?
Hello Tin pot,
