it goes off. People took cuttings before rooting hormone was invented.
It makes no difference to my success rate, most of them die whatever I do or don't use

I am with Nut on this one.
I never use rooting powder, as I believe it can actually make things worse, as you can get blobs of powder on the cutting, making it less likely to root.

There are no absolutes in gardening.
I have reasonable success, without using rooting powder. I choose not to use it, because that is what many of the "experts" said, when I read about their methods.
