Hazel - I can't claim any skill. I'm always really grateful when things work out. Enjoy your sun, still overcast and humid here

    Verdun says:
don't think the problem is self seeding Cloggie.   They spread by runners and where happy will be a little invasive

Do you mean Verbena Bonariensis spread by runners Verdun?  If so, I have a problem.  They are looking invasive in their second year of cultivation.  Ho hum, lots to share!

  • I have Goldsturm and Little Gold Star and they usually look great but they are both pretty miserable this year as the weather has been so dry. Most years I have to water them in my dry, clay, south-facing border but this year I've been away and things haven't got done. I should probably move them somewhere more suitable.

  • It's in the plan, Verdun! I have a strip of partially shaded ground which has much better soil which was supposed to be prepared for planting last winter but didn't quite happen. This autumn it will definitely be tackled though and the rudbeckias can go there.

aym280 I think we must live quite near as we seem to have very similar conditions. I have a large crack running the width of the vegetable bed and am a bit nervous of picking the spinach in case I fall in! image

    My rudbeckias are Goldsturm, too

  • My redbeckias are Toto Gold and Rustic Dwarf.  First year that I have grown them from seed. Two groups of the Rustic Dwarf died, but I don't know why.imageThe toto gold in first picture were approx. 8 inches tall, the Rustic Dwarf were almost a metre highimage
