History repeats itself - yet again we encourage immigrants here to do jobs that the native population won't do, then we take against them
"...The harlequin, a larger and more voracious species than native British ladybirds, spread to the UK after being imported from East Asia to Europe for commercial pest control of crops...."
Well, I certainly am - the link I posted is about ladybirds
Another instance of non-native animals becoming naturalised is that of rabbits who were brought here to be farmed by the Romano-British and changed the lowland landscape of Great Britain for ever.
We tried to wipe them out by encouraging the spread of the awful myxomatosis disease - at one stage over 95% of the UK population of rabbits had been wiped out - but the rabbit has developed an immunity and the number of rabbits has returned to approximately that previously recorded.
There is no point in trying to eradicate the Harlequin ladybird from the UK.
