just watched GW and the tribute to Geoff Hamilton

his inspirational style made him unique. he made GW unmissable and a joy to watch. I guess it has all been said but a sad loss.

Enjoyed seeing parts of his garden again and the "rocks". How many years have passed since then?

Agreed, Verdun.  I guess he was around at an important time for my gardening education, too!  I've got all his books, and OH has just been transferring his videos to DVD for me...

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
  • A great loss indeed, but weren't we lucky to have him for the several years that we did!

Totally agree Verdun. Such a loss at an early age. He was indeed inspirational.

Such respect for a great man. Felt like I'd lost a friend. So nice to see Barnsdale again and I'll never forget my trip there 20 years ago after Geoff passed away.

I would go so far as to say he's the reason I became interested in gardening in the first place.

Haven't seen it yet but looking forward to it. His book - The Living Garden - was my oldest daughter's favourite bed time book when she was just a toddler  image

She saw G'sW one day with me and kept looking at him and back at me, and then said  'man'. She'd recognised him from the front cover.

As you say Danae - weren't we lucky to have had his  programmes, with his wealth of knowledge,  to help us on our way.  image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

It was a lovely tribute to a lovely man and such a good gardener/presenter  ... and I do love visiting Barnsdale ... a lovely legacy that truly reflects his personality and talents. image

    Hear, Hear.

  • I too enjoyed the show, hadn't realized it was so long ago. You can find some of his programs on YouTube, I was watching some the other week. I used to live in Leicestershire, but never made a trip to the garden, don't know why? Living in NE Scotland it's unlikely I'll make it now, didn't his son remind you of him?
