overfed plants
I just started gardening and I did not read the instructions on my fish emulsion nutrients. I put the 5-1-1 mixture straight in the soil not thinking that this would do any harm(stupid I know). When I looked at my plants only an hour later I noticed that they were all bent over. The plants are only about 1-2 weeks old. Is there any saving them? Steps that I took so far: 1. I took the plants out of the little cup they were in and put them in a 5 gallon pot (transplanted). 2. I attempted to over water the plant to rested the nutrients at the roots. I do not know what else I can do. My plants are dying! The leaves are curling up and some even look burnt. At this point should I start all over and chalk this up to a loss due to stupidity or can I fix this? I have Basil and Tomato plants.

Hi marcy. Fish emulsion is not a term I am familiar with so I guess you may be in the US. We are predominantly in the UK on this site. I think I would probably start again and count this as a lesson learned.

I don't feed basil at all. It has enough food in the compost it's in to keep it going through the season and just gets plenty of water as it's on a windowsill and dries out quickly. A very dilute seaweed, later on in the season if it was struggling, would be enough.Tomatoes need less food than most people realise too.
As Verdun says, often overfeeding does more damage than good. Good soil and conditions are the best way for the majority of plants.
It's the way we all learn though so i'm sure you'll have better luck next year
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
The name suggests that on warm days. That theres a chance your garden will smell like a fish market. Marcy don't worry to much your plants may pull through. Verdun been a bit premature.Hours doesn't give them a chance. Also if you live in a warm part of the world .Most flowering plants weep during the day and perk up in the evening.
If you can buy it fish bone and blood, its odourless.
Good Luck
Sorry Verdun my comment was based on Ladybirds advise Drrrr crossed wires.
Fish emulsion, it sounds like the kind of thing you would paint on your ex's house before leaving
Lou!
Fish emulsion is sometimes used as a tonic, a bit like a seaweed feed.
I did use it some yrs ago, but the smell was overpowering.
