What is this and is it a problem?

I am a very novice gardener and I think this is a crab apple tree. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I noticed weird fungus looking stuff on the branches. Is this normal? Should I do anything? Thanks

I get that lichen on all my gooseberry bushes but it never affects the fruit or the amount of it. Nice to hear that it occurs where the air is nice and clean!
