What is this and is it a problem?

in Fruit & veg
I am a very novice gardener and I think this is a crab apple tree. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I noticed weird fungus looking stuff on the branches. Is this normal? Should I do anything? Thanks

Hi Barber Miche. Can you upload a picture to help in identifying please?
Trying to upload a photo from my phone but it's not doing it. Bare with me.
Hi I have that on my discovery Apple tree and was told it is lichen and not to worry about it. ?
Well done
No need to worry. That is a lichen and indicates the air in your region is very clean. It will not harm your tree unless it covers everything. You can scrape off any bits you don't like.
Cat beat me to it ha ha!
Thank you Ladybird
Thanks both of you. I'm happy about that. Is it a crab apple tree? The fruits don't grow bigger than cherrys. I have so many plants I can't identify in my garden. I need to educate myself.
It certainly looks like a crab apple and your description of the fruit size would indicate that is right - you can make great crab apple jelly from them
Thanks
